The First Annual Texas Latino/a/x Contemporary Dance Festival
The world premiere of In between
As part of The First Annual Texas Lation/a/x Contemporary Dance Festival
A virtual festival streaming on line
A year ago we were getting ready to share a whole new work at the very first Texas Latino/a/x Contemporary Dance Festival when we were all faced with a global pandemic and the festival had to be put on hold. Now, a year later, we couldn't be more excited to share another new work at the festival, this time, completely virtual! Created remotely with a lot of help from technology and filmed separately in two different locations, In between is a premiere not to be missed! It tells Roberta Paixao Cortes' story of immigration, when she left her home country of Brazil to live in the United States. From her memories of what and who she left behind to her adaptation in a new country, new language, and different culture; In between gives a glimpse of the feeling of living in between two worlds and the struggle of being an immigrant. In between has an original music score inspired by the music of Brazilian singer and composer Caetano Veloso and was composed by Thomas Helton. Performed by Roberta Paixao Cortes, Thomas Helton, Lindsey McGill, and Seth Paynter. In between was filmed at MATCH and the P.E.T Outdoor Theater. Our company is also showing its first work, Fear: a work in progress, that also highlight's Roberta's choreography.
